The Society makes small research grants to its members. The purpose is to enable researchers to undertake projects and publications on the post-Medieval archaeology of Britain, Europe and the wider world, from about 1500 to the present day. We make research grants twice a year as resources permit.

Each research grant proposal is subject to a maximum of £2000. The total fund available in any single application round will be £2000. We may divide the available fund between a number of applications.

The twice yearly deadlines for submission are 1st March and 1st September. Successful applicants will be informed by 1 May and 1 November respectively. They must submit a report about their project for inclusion on this website and in the Society’s newsletter.

How to apply

You can apply for a research grant by filling out an application form (below), and emailing it to the Grants Coordinator at grants@spma.org.uk

Grant holders can download a copy of the Society logo for use on reports and publicity associated with their funded activities:

Read about research that has most recently benefited from a grant, or look through back issues of our Newsletter for more examples of the type of project we support. You can also consult a list of past research grant holders.
