The 15 January bursary award deadline for our Congress bursary is rapidly approaching! Apply to the Paul and Yolanda Courtney Congress bursary award now.
The next Congress is PMAC26, hosted at the University of Reading, UK, on 15-17 May 2026. If you need financial support to attend, you could apply to the Paul and Yolanda Courtney Congress bursary.
About the Paul and Yolanda Courtney Congress award
We make an annual award in memory of Paul and Yolanda Courtney. It enables attendance at our annual Congress on post-medieval archaeology. Each award proposal will be subject to a maximum of £250, and the total fund available in a single application round is £250. The award may be split between one or two applicants.
We will prioritise the following groups:
- first-time attendees
- students
- those on low income
- and BAME and minority applicants (all self-defined)
Applicants can be located in any part of the world. We do not favour presentation over attendance. There is no restriction on age. You need not be a member of the Society. The award can be spent on registration, travel, hotel costs, and/or childcare costs. Payments will be made to applicants before the Congress.
How to apply
Please complete the form (Word document) on the bursary webpage. Outline why attendance would be useful, any expected outcomes from attendance, and a breakdown of expected costs. Email the completed form to the Society’s Prize Co-ordinator at prizes@spma.org.uk.
The deadline for applications is 15 January 2026. Successful applicants will be informed by 15th February.
Good to know
We require successful applicants to write a short report about their experience attending the Congress. The report is published on our website and in our Newsletter. The report must be submitted within three months of attending Congress.
