We are pleased to announce the SPMA Research Grant Award, Autumn 2024, is to Megan Crutcher (Texas A & M University) for The Kru Coast Heritage Initiative (KCHI).
Megan is an American historian and archaeologist who studies West African maritime history and archaeology. The Kru/Krao/Klao Coast Heritage Initiative aims to understand, document, record, and analyze the history of the Kru (Krao/Klao) people starting in Sinoe County, Republic of Liberia, West Africa. The project goals are to increase global awareness of this history, work with communities to document, preserve, and interpret local history, and pioneer archaeological studies of the Kru Coast region of West Africa, specifically southeastern Liberia.
